A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ‘PILOT’ PAUL!! Fellow Lions, Finally, the signs of spring are starting to show; migratory birds are returning, trees are budding and our neighbors are coming out of winter hibernation. Spring is my favorite time of year as everything comes back to life. Spring also means Thurmont Lions become more active with all of the activities coming up: the business expo, new member orientation, our club retreat, family fun night, Bell Hill cleanup, Loot Lotto and our first fish sandwich sales. Look for details of these events in the newsletter and please support these activities when you can. Lion Joyce and I went through all of our objectives for the year and we are on target with everything except “visitations”. Now that the weather is more suitable for travel, please schedule your visitations ASAP. We still have 13 clubs to visit. If anyone needs someone to go on the visitation with them, please call me, I will be glad to go with you. Thanks to everyone (Lions, Trinity UCC and others) that helped with the recent breakfast fund raiser. $670 was made for the Thurmont Community Medical Support Fund. Although this was not our most profitable breakfast at least the funds raised will help a family(s) in our community during a difficult financial medical tragedy; that in itself was worth the effort. The last two Lions club events were a huge success. The Easter egg hunt led by Lions Albie and Susan was enjoyed by all that attended. We received good news coverage and publicity from WHAG channel 25 (Hagerstown), The Frederick News Post and The Banner. Lion Susan really looks good on TV (maybe a new career in the making). The second event was last night’s “Barter Night” hosted by our own “auctioneer” Lion Bob. As usual Lion Bob made it another fun night, and our friends from Terra Rubra Lions enjoyed it so much last year they came back again this year. We look forward to having Terra Rubra with us again next year. See you at the club “Retreat”! The pilot “Remember you can’t get very far until you start doing something for someone else” Melvin Jones

If you have not already signed up, please do so by phoning Lion Shirley at 301-898-7004.
PLANNING RETREAT -- Here is some information to help you in getting to the retreat. First the dress is very casual. The day will begin (gasp!) at 8:30 AM at the Emmitsburg National Fire Academy. Please check in no later than 8:50. If you are driving you will need to give the guard the make, model and tag number of your vehicle and you will be issued a vehicle pass. The guard will check off your name and direct you to the building. Coffee and Pastries will be served beginning at 8:30. A delicious lunch will be served about 11:45 AM in the campus dining room. There is no charge. The Thurmont Lions Club will pay all costs. The day will end between 1:30 and 2:00 PM. After the Retreat, there is an open house with tours of the facilities if any one is interested. It should be lots of fun. It’s not too late to sign up, but, please let President Paul or Lion Joyce know if you want to attend no later than April 3. |
